Lucid Air Acquires Tesla Supercharger Compatibility, Enhanced Range, and Hiked Prices by 2026
The Lucid Air, an electric vehicle (EV) known for its impressive range, has recently seen an update to its Touring model, boasting an EPA-estimated 431 miles (693 km) of range on a full charge. However, this high-performing vehicle encounters a significant hurdle when charging on Tesla Superchargers, where its speed is capped at 50 kW.
This charging speed is a fraction of the Lucid Air's peak charging rate on high-voltage DC fast chargers, which can reach over 300 kW due to its 900-volt electrical architecture. This means that while the Lucid Air can add about 20 miles of range per minute on high-voltage DC fast chargers, it can only manage approximately 200 miles of range per hour on Tesla Superchargers.
This contrast is particularly notable when compared to the Lucid Gravity SUV, which can charge at over 225 kW on Tesla V3 Superchargers, providing much faster charging speeds. The slower charging speed on Tesla Superchargers for the Lucid Air is primarily due to its early 900-volt architecture and the lack of a voltage booster needed to fully utilize Tesla’s V3 Superchargers.
Despite this setback, Lucid Air owners can still access Tesla Superchargers across North America. They can initiate and pay for Supercharger sessions through the Lucid app. However, starting July 31, 2025, Lucid Air owners will have access to Tesla's Supercharger network.
In terms of pricing, the Lucid Air Touring model in Canada now costs $112,800 CAD, an increase of $3,500, while the Pure model is now priced at $99,900 CAD, an increase of $3,100. A Lucid-approved CCS-to-NACS adapter will be required for connecting to Tesla Superchargers, priced at US$220 (no Canadian pricing disclosed).
Lucid is also making updates to its DreamDrive Pro system, bringing it closer to competing Level 2 driver-assistance technologies. The system will receive an over-the-air (OTA) update introducing hands-free highway driving and lane-change assist.
In addition, the Grand Touring trim of the Lucid Air now includes 20-way power front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions as standard. The entry-level Pure trim now includes a new rear center-console display and DreamDrive Premium driver-assistance features. The Lucid Air Pure model in the U.S. now starts at $70,900 USD, an increase of $1,000.
The 2026 Lucid Air updates also include a quieter, upgraded AC compressor and a new 19-inch Aeronaut wheel option in Platinum and Stealth finishes. The Lucid Air Grand Touring model in Canada now costs $161,200 CAD, an increase of $8,900.
In conclusion, while the Lucid Air offers an impressive range and rapid charging on high-voltage DC fast chargers, its charging speed on Tesla Superchargers is limited. Nevertheless, Lucid Air owners can still access Tesla's Supercharger network, and the vehicle continues to evolve with updates to its DreamDrive Pro system and other features.
