Skilled Workers' Preferred Employers: Automotive Industry Surprises as Top Choices

Listing: Top Employers Preferred by Specialized Professionals - Listing: Top Preferred Employers Among Skilled Job Seekers

Skilled workers continue to be in high demand, with many finding ample opportunities and freedom to choose their employers. A survey by market research institute Trendence revealed an unexpected trend: four major car manufacturers have made it to the top ten preferred employers, despite the ongoing difficulties within the industry. Desirable companies are not solely determined by the quality of their workplaces, but also by their recruitment efforts and public image.

The survey results primarily showcase the pull of large, recognizable employers, although three public institutions—the German Armed Forces, the police, and the Federal Employment Agency—also appear in the top 25. The public sector, with 28% of mentions, takes the lead, followed by trade at 25%, and the automotive industry at 20%.

In the two years since the COVID-19 pandemic, a noticeable change has occurred in the job market. Firms previously perceived as secure, such as the Federal Employment Agency and customs, have become less popular, while trade companies have gained attraction. The drugstore chain DM, for instance, has moved up 18 places to 8th place, while Aldi Süd has reached 12th place. However, Amazon remains the most popular trade company.

"Skilled workers from the blue-collar labor market are particularly drawn to innovative and stable employers," explains Trendence CEO Robindro Ullah. The automotive industry and trade currently receive this image.

The survey asked 20,000 skilled workers online where they would most likely apply, allowing them to list up to three employers. Respondents were typically 35 years old, had completed an apprenticeship, and had varying academic backgrounds.
