Skilled Workers' Preferred Employers: Insights from Trendence Institute's Annual Survey
Rating: Which Companies Are Highly Preferred by Professionals in Specific Fields - Listing: Companies Favored by Skilled Job Seekers
Amidst the economic turbulence affecting various industries, skilled workers continue to hold a favorable position, with many opportunities to choose their ideal employers. Trendence Institute, a market research firm, recently conducted a survey to determine the employers that skilled workers would be most likely to apply to. The findings, exclusively obtained by stern, reveal an unexpected list of automotive manufacturers ranking among the top ten employers, despite the sector currently undergoing substantial job cuts.
The survey results suggest that an employer's reputation is not solely influenced by the quality of jobs but also by factors such as recruitment strategy, public perception, and brand image. The results indicate that well-established companies, both in the private and public sectors, have made it to the ranking. Remarkably, three public institutions – the German Armed Forces, the police, and surprisingly, the Federal Employment Agency – are among the top 25.
In terms of sectors, the public sector leads with 28% mentions, followed by trade with 25%, and then the automotive industry with 20%. This indicates a growing preference for stability and innovation in employers, attributes often associated with the automotive industry and trade.
Changing Trends in Employer Preferences
Trendence Institute's annual survey has revealed two significant trends. Securely perceived employers in the public sector, such as customs, police, or the Foreign Office, have seen a decline in popularity compared to immediately after the COVID-19 pandemic. For instance, the Federal Employment Agency has dropped from 12th to 22nd place, and customs from 16th to 32nd. On the contrary, trade companies, like DM and Aldi Süd, are seen as more attractive, with DM gaining 18 places in two years and now being in 8th place, and Aldi Süd making it to 12th place. Nevertheless, Amazon remains the most popular trade company (3rd place).
Despite these shifts, security continues to be a crucial factor for skilled workers, particularly those in the blue-collar labor market. According to Trendence CEO Robindro Ullah, these workers are drawn to innovative and stable employers, attributes currently attributed to the automotive industry and trade.
The survey involved 20,000 skilled workers who, on average, were 35 years old, had mostly completed apprenticeships, and some had also obtained master’s degrees or attended vocational schools.
Most Preferred Employers Across Sectors
A deeper analysis of the survey results reveals that the top employers favored by young talent in the automotive sector consistently include Porsche, BMW Group, and Mercedes Benz Group. These companies were ranked as the top three employers in the survey focused on German senior school students, despite the challenges facing the automotive industry.
In the public sector, the Police emerged as the fourth most preferred employer, demonstrating strong appeal. Additionally, the German organization GIZ, which operates in the public sector, was ranked first in the "Public sector" category among young professionals and also scored respectably in the overall ranking.
Trade (wholesale and retail) remained the most popular career choice, followed by the automotive and public sectors.
This data provides valuable insights into the sectoral preferences and employer strength in attracting skilled workers based on Trendence Institute's comprehensive survey insights.
Community policy may play a role in attracting skilled workers to employers, as demonstrated by the strong appeal of public institutions in the survey, such as the German Armed Forces, the police, and the Federal Employment Agency.
Vocational training programs could potentially be introduced or improved by top employers to further increase their attractiveness, as evidenced by the consistent ranking of companies like Porsche, BMW Group, and Mercedes Benz Group among young talented professionals in the automotive sector. These companies seem to be valued not only for their job prospects but also for their investments in vocational training.
