Lehna has been elevated to the position of Quantum Systems Director.
In the heart of Bavaria, Quantum Systems, a trailblazer in AI-driven unmanned aerial systems (UAS), continues to make waves in the global defense industry. Established in 2015, the company has been supplying its vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capable reconnaissance drones to the Ukrainian military since 2022.
The Vector medium-range reconnaissance drones, manufactured by Quantum Systems, have proven their resilience and operational success under combat conditions in Ukraine. With over 200 employees in the country and plans to double production capacity by opening a second production facility in September 2025, Quantum Systems is deepening its commitment to support Ukraine's military capabilities.
In a significant move, Quantum Systems announced a strategic partnership with Frontline, a Ukrainian drone manufacturer focused on reconnaissance and strike mission technologies, in mid-July 2025. The partnership, which includes a 10% stake acquisition by Quantum Systems with an option to increase it to 25% within the next year, aims to foster collaboration, particularly in drone defense systems development. Despite this, Quantum Systems has clarified that it does not intend to produce combat drones directly.
Meanwhile, Quantum Systems' CEO, Matthias Lehna, has reported on the extensive combat use of the Vector drones, with thousands of operational hours and the latest iterations featuring AI enhancements to improve reconnaissance operations. This focus on dual-use technologies, including AI, underpins Quantum Systems' strategic approach, aligning with Germany's large defense investments while concentrating on advanced aerial data collection and unmanned systems rather than heavy armaments.
Matthias Lehna, who joined Quantum Systems on May 1, 2023, currently serves as the Director of Business Development & Government Relations. In this role, he oversees strategic business development in the public sector and manages political relations at both national and international levels. Lehna has been responsible for setting up Quantum Systems' capital office in Berlin since 2023, reporting directly to the C-level management.
Quantum Systems' aggressive expansion into international operations is evident, with the opening of a factory and development hub in Ukraine in 2024. The company's recent Series C funding round has propelled it to unicorn status, further fuelling its growth trajectory. As Quantum Systems continues to forge partnerships and expand its operations, it remains committed to its mission of providing advanced, AI-driven UAS for reconnaissance and data collection.
