Apple has made an exciting announcement, releasing the public beta of its latest operating system, iOS 26. The public beta is now available for download on a variety of iPhone models, including the iPhone 11 and newer devices.
New Features in iOS 26
The new update brings a host of exciting features to iPhone users. AI technology plays a significant role in iOS 26, with live translation, AI-powered shortcuts, poll suggestions in Messages, and Visual Intelligence for smarter image searches.
The Lock Screen has also been redesigned, featuring 3D photo effects and a dynamic clock. Two new features, Call Screening and Hold Assist, have been added to enhance user experience.
Supported Devices
iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max, 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max, 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, 16e, 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, iPhone SE (2nd generation) and newer models are all compatible with iOS 26. Unfortunately, older devices like the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max are no longer supported.
Cautions and Installation
As with any pre-release software, users should expect some issues and instability. It is strongly recommended to back up an iPhone before installing the iOS 26 public beta. To install, users need to open the Settings app, tap General, go to Software Update, tap Beta Updates, select iOS 26 public beta, enter their passcode when prompted, start the installation, and restart their phone.
Upcoming Features
iOS 26 also includes updates to Genmoji and Image Playground, a dedicated gaming app, and a new Liquid Glass design, giving apps and interface elements a transparent look. App icons can now be set to appear clear for a glass-like look.
The stable version of iOS 26 will be released later this year. More details about the AppleCare One plan and its price are yet to be announced. Apple has already fixed some major bugs in the iOS 26 public beta since the developer beta was released a month ago.
Join the iOS 26 public beta through Apple's Beta Software Program if you have an iPhone from the 11 series or later (including SE 2nd gen and up). However, some features may remain limited to the newest models.
