Jūrmala will stage a gathering uniting art, energy, and local governance
In a significant step towards a sustainable future, the launch of the CCI4Change Collaboration Toolkit took place on May 8, 2025, at the Jūrmala Central Library in Latvia [2]. The event brought together creative professionals, local authorities, and sustainability experts from across the Baltic Sea Region.
The CCI4Change project, supported under the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme, aims to facilitate the decarbonisation of energy systems and promote sustainable energy solutions through the cultural and creative sectors [1]. The project believes that artistic and cultural approaches can engage citizens and cause behavioral shifts for reducing energy consumption.
The launch event highlighted how the toolkit serves as a collaborative resource for stakeholders to integrate artistic and cultural actions in local energy transition strategies. This innovative approach leverages creativity to raise awareness, motivate behavioral changes, and foster community involvement in sustainable energy practices.
The toolkit, developed based on experiences from international pilot projects conducted by CCI4Change, is intended for use by municipalities across various locations [3]. It focuses on collaboration between municipalities and creatives to drive sustainable solutions and citizen engagement.
The event's morning session, from 10:00-13:15, featured keynote speeches [4]. The afternoon session, following the speeches, will consist of workshops. Our news service will livestream the morning session [5].
The CCI4Change project aligns with the broader objective of the Baltic Sea Region Programme’s priority 3, which targets climate-neutral societies by increasing energy efficiency and renewable energy production from locally available resources [1]. The launch event marks a significant step in combining culture and sustainability to empower communities in Latvia and the wider Baltic region in the move towards climate-neutral, energy-efficient futures.
For more information about the event, please visit https://ndpculture.org/ [6]. This event positions Latvia as a leader in systemic innovation for sustainability. New governance models and public-civic partnerships are emphasized as being urgently needed in this endeavour [7]. The CCI4Change Collaboration Toolkit is being launched to bring together creatives and local authorities to work towards a common goal: a sustainable and energy-efficient future.
The CCI4Change Collaboration Toolkit, developed under the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme, focuses on integrating artistic and cultural actions in local energy transition strategies, especially in EU member states like Latvia, to promote sustainable energy solutions and drive decarbonisation of energy systems through the use of technology. This innovative approach is aimed at numerous municipalities across different locations, fostering collaboration between them and creatives to achieve sustainable solutions and citizen engagement.
