Ambitious Air Mobility Group (AAMG) Expresses Interest in Acquiring Lilium

A new investor, Ambitious Air Mobility Group (AAMG), has expressed a keen interest in acquiring Lilium, the flying taxi (eVTOL) manufacturer, which recently entered insolvency proceedings. AAMG aims to acquire Lilium’s core assets, including intellectual property, testing facilities, and some employees, to revive and further develop Lilium’s aircraft platform.

The interest from AAMG comes after Lilium’s renewed insolvency filing in February 2023, following a lack of promised investment from major investor DTM. AAMG has not previously been reported to have any significant public presence or operations, but it is a joint venture between LuxAviation, Sigma Air Mobility, and the Ambitious Group, an internationally active recruitment consultancy based in Amsterdam.

AAMG has approximately 250 million euros in capital available for potential acquisition, with the potential for additional funding of up to €500 million for global expansion and operational scaling. Their plans for Lilium include restarting and advancing the Lilium Jet development, establishing a European supply chain, retaining key technical and certification teams, expanding beyond passenger focus to unmanned versions of the aircraft, and investing in advanced air mobility infrastructure such as vertiports.

AAMG has already placed an order for 16 Lilium aircraft and is working closely with the startup since 2023. They aim to create jobs and retain or rehire Lilium’s most important tech and certification teams. The acquisition, if successful, could position Lilium as a viable player again in the advanced air mobility market.

However, AAMG faces challenges, notably administrative hurdles in securing all necessary documentation from Lilium’s insolvency administrators, and the technical and certification challenges inherent to electric VTOL aircraft. Despite these challenges, AAMG remains optimistic and committed to reviving and developing Lilium’s aircraft platform.
