In the ever-evolving world of NFTs, one anonymous figure has emerged as a relentless watchdog, uncovering fraudulent activities and exposing questionable practices in the industry. Known only as ZachXBT, this crypto trader has amassed a significant following on Twitter, with over 422,000 followers, including some of the biggest names in the Web3 industry.
ZachXBT joined Twitter in 2015 and began their pro-bono Web3 detective career in May 2021. The identity of ZachXBT remains a mystery, but a few clues have surfaced. According to a document from the US District Court for the Western District of Texas, Austin, ZachXBT's last name is Zachary.
Despite the anonymity, ZachXBT's impact on the NFT space has been undeniable. With their impressive chain analysis experience, they have investigated numerous projects and individuals, exposing several NFT projects such as Pixelmon, Rogue Society, and SolChicks, and influencers like Logan Paul, BitBoy Crypto, and Tai Lopez.
One of ZachXBT's most notable findings was in the Pixelmon case, where they discovered that hundreds of ETH were transferred to various addresses after the mint, and the team's dev address used 400 ETH to buy blue chip NFTs. In the Rogue Society case, ZachXBT exposed the founder, Jahvin Bowman, and found evidence of the project devs buying digital artwork from the Unity platform.
ZachXBT's work has also led to exposing several Venture Capitals (VCs) and NFT influencers, including MoonRock Capital, DarkPool Ventures, BlueZilla, BitBoy, and Tai Lopez. In March 2022, ZachXBT accused Tai Lopez of scamming users with his NFT collection "OG (Original Garage) Social Club" due to his history of scams.
In addition, ZachXBT has exposed several questionable activities by influencers like Logan Paul, who was accused of promoting pump and dump NFT projects such as DinkDoink, Elongate, or $F**KELON. ZachXBT also uncovered shady transfers from the blockchain treasury management platform Formosa Financial, implicating Machi Big Brother.
The support from the crypto and NFT communities for ZachXBT has been evident. Beeple, a renowned digital artist, dedicated an NFT artwork to ZachXBT in 2022 to honour their contributions to the NFT space. This gesture was a testament to the impact ZachXBT has had in exposing top influencers and NFT projects throughout the years, preventing potential victims.
However, ZachXBT's work has not been without controversy. In June 2023, Machi Big Brother sued ZachXBT for defamation, leading to ZachXBT accepting donations from the community to cover legal costs.
Despite the lawsuit, ZachXBT's meticulous work continues to uncover questionable activities in the NFT space. With notable donors such as Coinbase, Uniswap, Binance, Bybit, and OKX, ZachXBT's legal battle is being fought with the support of the community they have helped protect.
