Insta360 takes the lead with a significant X5 update, unveiled prior to the rollout of DJI and GoPro's 360-degree cameras

The Insta360 X5, the company's most powerful rugged camera, has received a substantial update as part of the Summer Update. The latest release brings a host of new features, smarter software, and hardware upgrades that enhance the camera's versatility, creative freedom, and usability, particularly benefiting filmmakers, motorcyclists, and underwater enthusiasts.

One of the key highlights of the update is AdaptiveTone, a smart, dynamic exposure system that adjusts to high-contrast scenes automatically for better-balanced footage. This system, which records light data independently from each of the X5's dual lenses, is available in 8K30fps and 5.7K30fps 360 Video and PureVideo modes.

Battery life has also received a significant boost with the introduction of a new Ultra Battery. The 2,800mAh battery extends runtime by 17% to nearly 4 hours. Specifically, the X5 now supports up to 208 minutes recording at 5.7K and 135 minutes at 8K resolution, allowing longer uninterrupted shooting sessions.

PureVideo has also been enhanced for Single-Lens Mode, with AI-powered low-light video quality improvements that reduce noise and increase color fidelity, delivering sharper and more cinematic footage in dim environments.

Insta360 has also introduced industry-first ND filters designed exclusively for 360 cameras. These neutral density filters enable filmmakers to create cinematic motion blur and achieve optimal exposure control, bringing traditional cinematic techniques to 360° video.

For motorcycle enthusiasts, the update includes immersive shake stabilization simulating natural tilt and shake for more realistic motorcycle shots. The exclusive X5 BMW Motorrad Edition adds custom design elements and gear.

Underwater shooting has also received a boost with the development of the Invisible Dive Case Pro, an improved underwater housing with better optical quality. The Neutral Buoyancy Rod, a new accessory, is also in development to keep the camera stable underwater for hands-free shooting. AquaVision 3.0, an updated underwater color correction algorithm, analyzes footage and applies optimized color profiles automatically.

The update also includes integration with SUUNTO dive computers, allowing real-time overlay of dive depth and performance data in videos for an immersive diver experience.

In terms of editing and software improvements, the Insta360 Studio software now offers faster export speeds and improved AI stitching. The app has a redesigned smart grid album layout, modern preview interface, and more editing tools, improving ease of use, especially for large volumes of clips.

Finally, the update includes cloud storage integration with Insta360+. New X5 buyers activating by July 21 will receive 200 GB of free cloud storage for six months.

Overall, these upgrades significantly increase the Insta360 X5’s creative potential, battery longevity, and usability across land, motorcycling, and underwater environments, making it a more powerful and versatile tool for immersive 360° content creation.

The update introduces ND filters designed exclusively for 360 cameras, allowing filmmakers to bring traditional cinematic techniques to 360° video, showcasing the fusion of technology and cinema. This update also enhances PureVideo for Single-Lens Mode, with AI-powered low-light improvements, resulting in sharper, more cinematic footage in dim environments, demonstrating the advancements in smartphones, gadgets, and data-and-cloud-computing technologies.
