Innovative company United Machining Solutions unveils eight groundbreaking inventions at EMO event
United Machining Solutions: A Powerhouse in High-Precision Machine Tools and Advanced Manufacturing
In a strategic move that has shaken up the machine tool industry, the UNITED GRINDING Group and the GF Machining Solutions Division of Georg Fischer AG have merged to form United Machining Solutions. This merger, completed in mid-2025, has combined two leading machine tool manufacturers into a single group with over $1.5 billion in annual sales, around 5,000 employees, and more than 50 global locations, headquartered in Bern, Switzerland.
The new group, United Machining Solutions, consists of two divisions: United Grinding and United Machining. United Grinding specializes in flat and profile grinding, cylindrical grinding, tool machining, and additive manufacturing. On the other hand, United Machining offers machines for high-speed milling, EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining), laser texturing, and laser micro-machining.
The products of the combined companies do not overlap, they complement each other, making integration easier. For instance, United Grinding includes the brands Mägerle, Blohm, Jung, Studer, Schaudt, Mikrosa, Walter, EWAG, and IRPD, while the United Machining division includes Agie Charmilles, Charmilles, Mikron Mill, Liechti, Step Tec, and System 3R.
The merger was a long-standing goal supported by lead shareholders Rosmarie and Martin Ebner, who authorized a capital increase to enable the acquisition. The combined entity operates under the name United Machining Solutions but retains the separate brand structures of the original companies.
At the EMO Hannover 2025, United Machining Solutions will make its first joint appearance, showcasing its 15 brands and new products. The company plans to emphasize leadership and culture alignment as key to the merger's potential benefits for customers and the global manufacturing industry.
With this merger, United Machining Solutions has become one of the largest machine tool manufacturers worldwide. The new company, essentially the former GF Machining Solutions, is poised to make a significant impact in the industry with its diverse and complementary product range covering both traditional and additive manufacturing processes.
