Increase in pricing for various models of MG's electric hatchback, the MG4, for Australian consumers.
MG Motor Australia has announced an update to the pricing of its popular electric hatchback, the MY25 MG4. Starting from July 1, 2024, the prices of the MG4 will see an increase, primarily due to general price rises across the entire MG4 range in Australia.
The new pricing structure sees the drive-away prices for the Essence 77 variant starting from $50,990, a $3,000 increase from its previous price. The Essence 64 variant will now cost $45,990, an increase of $3,000, while the Excite 64 variant will start at $42,990, a $2,000 increase. The entry-level Excite 51 variant's driveaway price increases by $1,000, from $36,990 to $37,990.
Despite the price increases, MG Motor Australia's CEO, Peter Ciao, maintains that the MG4 still delivers "unbeatable value" for Australian families. He emphasised that these changes are due to ongoing increases in cost and market positioning, rather than improvements or updates to the current version of the MG4.
The MG4 has been a success since its launch in late 2023, selling over 10,000 units. The electric hatchback offers features such as Android Auto & Apple Carplay, available in all variants, including the base variant, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, which is featured in all MG4 variants.
The Excite and Essence variants of the MG4, equipped with a 64 kWh battery pack, can deliver up to 450 km of range on a single charge. The entry-level Excite 51 variant comes with a 51 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack and a rear-mounted 125 kW motor.
In a related development, Riz Akhtar, the founder of carloop, a platform aimed at reducing transport emissions in Australia, is a mechanical engineer with a passion for EVs. Mr. Akhtar currently drives a red Tesla Model 3.
It is worth noting that a new generation of the MG4 featuring advanced battery technology (such as semi-solid-state batteries) with additional features and likely higher pricing is also set to launch, which might affect the pricing structure of the current model.
Interested customers should check with a local MG dealer this month to take advantage of the current prices before the changes take effect on July 1, 2024. The price increase does not apply to the X-Power performance variant, which remains at its current driveaway price of $55,990.
