Hyundai Unveils Genesis EREV: Luxury SUV with 1,000+ km Range
Hyundai has unveiled the Genesis EREV, an Extended Range Electric Vehicle, at its 2025 CEO Investor Day in Manhattan. This new luxury SUV promises to combine the refinement of an electric vehicle with the practicality of extended range, potentially shaking up the segment.
The Genesis EREV allows for a smaller battery capacity, reducing weight and cost, while a plug-in charging capability ensures convenient refuelling. Its engine, a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, acts purely as a generator, supplying electricity to the battery when needed. This serial-type hybrid design extends the driving range significantly, with estimates suggesting over 1,000 km on a single charge, eliminating range anxiety.
The first Genesis model to feature this EREV powertrain is expected to be the GV70 SUV. Despite the addition of an engine, the price of the EREV is anticipated to be similar to, or even higher than, the current GV70 EV, reflecting the advanced technology and practicality offered.
The Genesis EREV, scheduled for release after 2026 alongside new Genesis hybrid models and Hyundai's next-generation eM platform, could indeed become a game-changer in the luxury SUV segment. By offering the refinement of an EV with the practicality of extended range, it aims to provide the best of both worlds.
