Hydrogen power racing at Zandvoort's Formula 1 Grand Prix
In a significant move towards sustainable mobility, the Renault Group has taken over the supply of hydrogen-powered logistical needs for Alpine Motorsport teams, using the Renault Master Van H2-TECH. This decision marks a strategic shift towards light hydrogen utility vehicles, a priority for the Renault Group, thanks to their partnership with HYVIA.
As one of the leading players in the transforming Dutch market towards zero-emission mobility, Renault Group aims to align with the trend of decarbonized vehicles, particularly for professional use. The Netherlands, at the forefront of zero-emission mobility, aims to have around thirty low-emission zones by 2024.
HYVIA, a company specializing in light hydrogen utility vehicles using fuel cell technology, has established four strategic partners in the Netherlands for service, repair, and maintenance: Bochane Groep, Stam Autobedrijven, Terwolde, and Van Mossel. Major Dutch actors such as GP Groot, Warmtebouw, and Pot Verhuizingen have also signed orders with HYVIA.
Plug, a company building a complete ecosystem of green hydrogen, integrating the entire value chain from production to delivery, has partnered with Renault Group to support the deployment of hydrogen vehicles with HYVIA in Europe. Plug, with over 60,000 fuel cell systems and over 185 refueling stations deployed worldwide, more than anyone else in the industry, is well-equipped to support this transition.
The Renault Master Van H2-TECH has been tested in several countries, including the Netherlands, France, Spain, and Germany. Anouk Poelmann, CEO of Renault Group Netherlands, and Heinz-Jürgen Löw, Senior Vice-President of Renault Commercial Vehicles, have been instrumental in driving this initiative.
Alpine Motorsports is also exploring hydrogen-powered technologies for future developments in Formula 1 and endurance cars. Bruno Famin, Director of Alpine Motorsports, believes hydrogen could be a crucial step in the decarbonization of these racing series. Plug, the partner of BWT Alpine F1 TeamTM for three years, welcomes this arrival of hydrogen in Formula 1.
HYVIA will provide a Renault Master Van H2-TECH to the teams of the Viry-Châtillon site for their logistical needs. HYVIA aims to reach 30% of the segment in Europe by 2030. As Renault Group continues its goal to have the greenest mix on the market by 2030, these partnerships and initiatives are a significant step towards a sustainable future for both motorsports and logistics in the Netherlands and beyond.
