In a significant move towards electrification, Honda has announced the pre-orders for its first all-electric model in China, the e:NS1. The SUV, produced by Dongfeng Honda, is now open for reservation by paying RMB 188.

The e:NS1 is designed to cater to the growing demand for new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China's fast-expanding market. Key features and specifications of the e:NS1 include:

- **Powertrain:** The e:NS1 comes with a full electric powertrain, offering instant torque, and a hybrid version that combines a 1.5L engine with an EHS electric hybrid system. - **Battery and Range:** Equipped with a BYD Blade Battery, the hybrid version can achieve up to 1,200 km range in hybrid mode. The pure electric range is cited around 510 km under the CLTC standard, making it competitive for long-distance driving in China. - **Design:** The e:NS1 boasts modern styling, targeting urban and suburban consumers seeking practical and eco-friendly transportation. - **Performance:** The electric motor provides smooth power delivery, showcasing Honda’s EV technology insights. - **Pricing:** Specific pricing details for the e:NS1 in China are yet to be announced. However, given Honda’s strategy in the competitive Chinese EV market, prices are expected to be competitive with other mid-range electric SUVs offered by domestic brands like BYD, NIO, and others.

Consumers who reserve the e:NS1 from March 18 to April 10 will receive benefits such as a free charging pile and five years of free OTA upgrades. The e:NS1 and another production model under the e:N brand, the GAC Honda’s e:NP1, will be available in spring 2022.

In a broader context, the e:NS1's entry into the Chinese market signifies Honda's increased efforts in the country's NEV market. The e:NS1 competes in a crowded and dynamic NEV segment, leveraging Honda’s technology together with China’s battery advancements like BYD Blade Battery to match current market expectations.

For a more detailed price comparison and official launch details, specific announcements would be needed. The e:NS1 offers a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument screen and a 15.2-inch center screen with the e:N OS system. Dongfeng Honda is a joint venture between Honda (NYSE: HMC) and Dongfeng Motor.

The e:NS1 is part of Honda's electrification efforts in China, where the company officially unveiled its pure electric vehicle brand e:N last year. In February 2022, China's wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles were 317,000, a 189.1% increase year-over-year and a 24.1% decrease month-over-month. BEVs accounted for 77.3% of these sales, with PHEVs accounting for 22.7%. The penetration rate of NEVs among local brands was 38%, while for luxury vehicles it was 29.4%. For mainstream joint venture brands, it was 3.3%.
