High-power charging in Europe finds a partner in Allego and Kempower
In a significant move to accelerate electric mobility across Europe, Allego, a leading EV charging infrastructure provider, and Kempower, a Finnish DC fast charger manufacturer, have partnered to deliver a new high-power split charging system. This system, powered by modular DC charging technology, is set to revolutionise fast charging across Europe.
Guillaume Goijen, Director of Charging Solutions & Site Design at Allego, stated that the introduction of the split system to their network provides EV drivers with the highest power available, a crucial step towards supporting the expansion of electric mobility, including for trucks.
The collaboration between Allego and Kempower brings together advanced, high-power modular chargers with smart management software. This combination aims to provide fast, reliable, and scalable EV charging infrastructure, significantly improving EV adoption and operational efficiency throughout Europe.
Kempower’s modular DC chargers deliver up to 350 kW continuous charging power, enabling rapid charging for EVs, including heavy electric trucks. The system's modular design allows flexible and scalable charging infrastructure deployment, adapting to different site needs.
The split charging technology in the system efficiently distributes power among multiple vehicles simultaneously, potentially reducing overall charging times and infrastructure footprint. Kempower’s ChargEye system supports optimised total cost of ownership and dynamic charging tailored to logistics operators’ needs, facilitating overnight and daytime charging scenarios.
The system also offers pre-bookable charging slots and flexible pricing. Nimbnet-operated stations integrated with Kempower chargers enable operators to reserve charging times, minimising wait times and maximising fleet utilisation.
The first pilot sites for the system are live in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Sweden. Further rollout will include other Nordic countries, the Benelux region (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg), and France, supporting broader EU electrification efforts. The initial fast charging sites with Kempower technology will launch in Denmark during the third quarter of 2025.
Allego will integrate the system into its investment portfolio. The system's architecture allows for flexible installation with site-specific configurations, opening applications for truck charging, as stated by Guillaume Goijen.
In summary, this partnership marks a significant step towards supporting the growth of electric mobility across Europe. By providing the highest power available for EV drivers, the split system is designed to accommodate truck charging in addition to regular EVs, offering fast charging speeds and optimised energy efficiency. The dynamic power modules in the system are designed for intelligent power distribution, ensuring efficient and reliable charging solutions for the future of electric mobility.
