Helicopter operated by ADAC is forced to perform an emergency landing shortly following takeoff.
Puttin' the Brakes: ADAC Helicopter Forced to Land Precautionarily in Göttingen, Germany
By: Stefan Rampfel
What was happening during the rush hour? The ADAC helicopter "Christoph Westfalen" made an abrupt landing - smack dab in the middle of a Weende field.
Göttingen - City dwellers got an unexpected show on Friday, June 6th, in the Weende district. This time it was the ADAC helicopter "Christoph Westfalen" that touched down at the Dragoneranger, away from the bustling city, approximately 3:15 PM. Almost instantly following takeoff from the University Clinic, inevitably.
It turns out, this wasn't a classic emergency landing. Instead, the pilots decided to land precautionarily - yep, you read that right. A precautionary landing is when the risks of continuing to fly become significantly greater than the risks of landing.
After a series of phone calls with ADAC's super techies, they eventually gave the green light for the flight to Greven near the Münster/Osnabrück airport at about 4:22 PM. The pilot on scene kept mum about the technical issues they encountered, but assured everyone there was never any danger involved.
Eventually, the helicopter took off from the farm track in Weende and landed safely at the air rescue center in Greven at 5:13 PM. This place is where the intensive care transport helicopter typically calls home.
Intensive Care Transport Helicopter "Christoph Westfalen": The Unexpected Grounding
Before this incident, the helicopter had been rushing an urgent care patient from Paderborn to the university clinic. "Christoph Westfalen" has served as one of North Rhine-Westphalia's two intensive care transport helicopters since 2002.

The Greven-based ITH is always ready to take flight for emergencies and transfer missions, and since its inception, it's been deployed over 16,000 times. Many of its missions involve transporting patients to Göttingen, particularly from Höxter or other North Rhine-Westphalia locations. (Stefan Rampfel)
