Discovery (WBD) made a splash with its announcement during their upfront presentation: HBO Max, their streaming platform, is set to be rebranded once again, this time back to HBO Max. This move marks the fourth name change in the last decade for the service, and the sixth name since the debut of HBO Go in 2008.

The return to HBO Max is a response to the subscriber growth witnessed over the last year, with a staggering addition of 22 million subs. WBD anticipates a path towards over 150 million-plus subscribers by the end of 2026.

As Zaslav puts it, "With other services catering to the quantity game, WBD has carved out a niche with its quality and distinctive stories. And no brand has excelled in this craft as consistently and significantly as HBO."
