Greifswald's Registration Office Now Offers Digital Photos for ID Cards and Passports
Greifswald's registration office has started taking digital photos for personal documents. This change, effective since May 2025, replaces traditional paper photos for new identity cards and passports. The new system ensures secure storage and easy access to these photos.
Employees at the registration office now capture digital photos at their workstations. These photos are encrypted and uploaded to a secure cloud, accessible via a QR code. The equipment for this new system has been set up and tested, ensuring smooth operation.
The shift to digital photos is gradual. While they are now mandatory for new identity cards and passports, paper photos are still required for driver's licenses and other documents. Babies and toddlers can also have their photos taken for personal documents at the city administration. The cost for a digital photo is 6 euros.
While the registration office can take these photos, it's recommended to visit a professional photographer for young children's photos.
Greifswald's digital photo system for personal documents is now operational. It offers secure storage, easy access, and convenience for citizens. The registration office encourages residents to take advantage of this new service.
