Greenland's Tusass Partners with Eutelsat to Bring OneWeb's LEO Connectivity

Tusass, Greenland's national telecom provider, has inked a multi-year deal with Eutelsat to bring OneWeb's low Earth orbit (LEO) connectivity to the vast and remote Greenland territory. The partnership, which will utilise Eutelsat's OneWeb network, aims to deliver secure communications across Greenland, supporting Tusass' strategic objectives for digital inclusion and infrastructure development.

The agreement, signed by Elspeth Taylor, Tusass' CEO since April 2021, will enable Tusass to address various connectivity needs. These include community broadband access, ensuring high-speed internet for remote regions, and mission-critical infrastructure, bolstering communication for essential services. Additionally, the network will cater to maritime and mobility needs, providing connectivity at sea and on the move. Furthermore, it will enhance emergency services, ensuring reliable communication during crises.

Cyril Dujardin, President of Eutelsat's Connectivity Business Unit, highlighted the growing relevance of LEO for resiliency and redundancy in remote regions. Eutelsat's OneWeb satellites, operating in a polar orbit, ensure high-latitude coverage and low latency, high-speed connectivity even in Arctic conditions.

Through this partnership, Tusass will utilise Eutelsat's OneWeb network to improve connectivity across Greenland. The network's capabilities, including high-latitude coverage and low latency, will support Tusass' strategic objectives for digital inclusion and infrastructure integration. This move is expected to enhance communication services, bolster emergency response, and foster digital development across Greenland.
