Green Party Demands 'Right to Solar' Amid Minister's Fossil Fuel Push
The Green Party has launched an initiative, 'Right to Solar! Now', demanding easier grid connection and guaranteed feed-in tariffs for solar power. This move counters the Federal Minister of Economics, Katherina Reiche, who favours slowing the energy transition with fossil fuels.
Julia Verlinden, deputy faction leader of Alliance 90/The Greens, compared solar energy to fruit from a tree, arguing it should be used rather than discarded. The Greens propose a 'master plan for smart meters and digitalization' to speed up storage system market introduction. They also advocate targeted photovoltaic expansion on public buildings.
Verlinden criticized Reiche for focusing on solar reduction instead of storage, smart meters, and using solar energy for electric cars or heat pumps. The Greens call for uncomplicated rules for charging and discharging, and remuneration for grid feed-in from storage systems.
The Greens' initiative responds to Reiche's plans to slow down the energy transition. They demand a 'right to solar' for all citizens, aiming to accelerate renewable energy expansion and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
