Google Rolls Out Worldwide AI Mode for Interactive Search
Google has rolled out a significant update to its search engine, introducing AI mode worldwide. This new feature, powered by Google's Gemini Pro 2.5 AI system, offers users a more interactive news experience. It's now available in over 40 countries, including Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
AI mode, activated as an additional tab next to existing options like 'All', images, books, videos, and news, allows users to chat with news results. This replaces traditional links with detailed answers, providing a more conversational news experience. Users are already asking more specific and longer questions, such as 'What can you do this weekend in Edinburgh with friends?'.
The three most important sources appear in large boxes on the right side of the screen, with a footnote containing a link for further information. Google has been testing this feature since October 8, 2025, and it may take several days for the new AI mode tab to appear due to server updates. While Google continues to offer its 'AI overview' for certain topics, the new AI mode provides a more comprehensive and interactive news experience.
Google's AI mode, powered by Gemini Pro 2.5, is a significant step forward in search engine technology. It offers users a more engaging and detailed news experience, with the potential to change how we interact with information online. Publishers and companies marketing products via Google links may face traffic changes, but the long-term benefits of this enhanced news feature are yet to be seen.
