Girard-Perregaux and Bamford collaborate to reincarnate a 70's iconic diving watch, crafted with modern lightweight titanium materials.

Girard-Perregaux and British customization specialists Bamford have collaborated to revive a striking dive watch from the 1970s, updating the original design with modern materials and technology. The '60s and '70s were a golden era for dive watch design, and this new Legacy Edition honors the creative spirit of that age.

The distinctive features of the original 1971 Deep Diver reference have been recreated, notable for its roulette wheel-inspired blue, orange, and white dial. The watch is housed in a lightweight 40.3mm cushion case made of grade 5 titanium, a material not available to watchmakers in the '70s. Other updates include increased-length hour markers, orange hands, and a cleaner-looking bezel.

The internal rotating dive bezel is operated by an oversized crown at 2 o'clock, while the time is set using another oversized crown at 4 o'clock. Inside the watch beats Girard-Perregaux's GP03300 automatic movement, offering a 46-hour power reserve and date function.

The dial remains the most striking feature, with bold blue minute markers and paired orange straps, available in both blue and orange rubber with a quick-release system for seamless swapping. This collaboration is part of Bamford's ongoing partnerships with established Swiss watchmakers, bringing their unique vision to established brands.

Limited to 350 pieces worldwide, the Deep Diver Legacy Edition is priced at $15,100, making it one of the more expensive titanium divers on the market. This bold and distinctive re-edition is available now through Girard-Perregaux boutiques and Bamford's online store.

Origins:The original Deep Diver was an unusual addition to Girard-Perregaux's portfolio, known for complex tourbillons, Bridges, and the Laureato. The 1969 model was distinguished by its dive watch function, cushion-shaped case made by Piquerez (EPSA), and dual crowns controlling an inner rotating bezel and time setting. The classic case design foreshadowed the signature geometry later seen in Girard-Perregaux's iconic Laureato line.

Inspiration:The original Deep Diver made a mark thanks to its bold dial, unique pillow-shaped case with dual crowns, and the use of the GP calibre 461 Gyromatic movement. This revival project was undertaken by Girard-Perregaux to capture the spirit and retro aesthetics of the original dive watch, while updating it with modern materials and technology.
