Europe's First Full-Stack Forest Carbon Platform Launched Through Merger of Pina Earth and Tree.ly

A new joint entity, formed by the merger of Pina Earth and Tree.ly, has been unveiled as Europe's first full-stack forest carbon platform. This combined platform manages over 80,000 hectares of forest and 500,000+ tons of certified regional carbon credits across six European countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Italy.

The merger aims to establish market leadership in the DACH region and beyond. The combined entity serves approximately 100 buyers, making it the market leader in the region. The new platform integrates software, project development, and sales, creating greater scale and transparency in forest carbon projects.

Goals and Focus

The combined entity's goals include delivering a full-stack platform, connecting corporate buyers with high-quality, certified carbon projects, expanding the reach and impact of nature-based carbon solutions, and positioning themselves as the foremost tech-enabled provider in the expanding market for nature-based climate solutions.

The software, designed to work for forests of any location or size, places a focus on biodiversity and regionality. Pina Earth's forest simulation software will be available on the Tree.ly platform. Project certification is simplified for forest owners, and projects can be implemented under various standards and methodologies.

Leadership and Expansion

Jodok Batlogg and Christian Lutz will assume operational management, while Gesa Biermann and Florian Fincke will transition to strategic advisory roles. The organization operates under the brand Pina Earth and has locations in Munich, Berlin, and Dornbirn.

In the coming months, the focus will be on integration, sales expansion, further development of the technology platform, and preparation for a Series A financing round. The merger establishes a broader network for forest owners, allowing them to connect with more buyers.

The Road Ahead

Gesa Biermann, co-founder of Pina Earth, is excited about the merger, stating that it will allow them to scale their impact and offer high-quality climate protection projects. The combined entity now covers Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Hungary, offering an expanded portfolio of nature-based projects.

As Europe continues to grapple with climate change, this full-stack forest carbon platform promises to play a significant role in driving regional climate impact and advancing carbon market leadership across Europe.
