Forwarding the information: Upcoming delivery of advanced telecommunications technology to Brazil's electric power network
Grid, a global leader in railway infrastructure, power generation, and transmission, has signed a significant contract with Companhia Hidroelétrica do São Francisco (CHESF) to deliver an Optical Transport Network (OTN) for most of CHESF's network.
The OTN will be installed in 42 substations and three regional operational centers covering northeastern Brazil. This marks the first time a Latin American concessionaire will use an Optical Transport Network to align data transmission and optimize network performance.
The new data transmission system will optimize real-time network management and ensure continuous power supply at all times. Operating on optical fibers at a speed of 10 gigabytes per second, the OTN will accelerate telecommunications services at various levels, running business applications and providing critical mission services.
Sergio Gomes, Vice-President of Grid, stated that the delivery of the OTN reaffirms Grid's commitment to providing valuable Smart Grid solutions in Brazil and around the world. He added that the OTN will be used for rapid communication for protection and control purposes between dispatch control centers, power grids, and important applications.
With over 130 years of experience in the power transmission industry, Grid employs 17,000 people across 87 manufacturing and engineering units worldwide. The company's mission is to be the trusted partner of clients, from source to city, and it offers various energy transmission solutions, with a focus on smart grids.
Grid's vision is to develop flexible, reliable, affordable, and sustainable power grids. The company is known for innovative and environmentally friendly technologies and has recently built the world's fastest train and highest capacity automated metro.
The delivery scope includes delivery, integration, testing, local installation, experimental operation, and system warranty. The OTN will be used to align operations and optimize the performance of the Brazilian power grid, further solidifying Grid's position as a global leader in the power transmission industry.
