First Electric SUV Model by Acura, Built on Honda's Electric Vehicle Platform Unveiled
The Acura RSX, the brand's first fully electric model engineered in-house on Honda's newly developed global EV platform, will make its public debut on the Concept Lawn at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on Sunday, Aug. 18.
The Acura RSX is a premium, performance-oriented all-electric SUV, previewing Acura's next generation all-electric vehicle. It is a dramatic departure from traditional SUV designs, with a wide stance, sculpted surfaces, flush door handles, fastback roofline, and large 21-inch wheels.
Key features of the Acura RSX include:
- Platform and Powertrain: Built on Honda's new global EV platform with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive (AWD). It supports bidirectional charging, enabling it to power external devices or even provide home backup power.
- Charging: Equipped with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, allowing access to the Tesla Supercharger network.
- Software and Technology: Debuts Acura’s proprietary ASIMO Operating System, which integrates infotainment and advanced driver-assist features, supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, and adapts to driver behavior, including music preferences.
- Design: The Acura RSX boasts an aggressive front fascia, a teardrop cabin, and a captivating "Moonlit White Pearl" paint with a semi-matte finish. It also features drilled high-performance brakes with paint-matched Moonlit White four-piston calipers and neon green Acura scripting on each brake caliper.
The Acura RSX will be the first EV produced at Honda’s new Honda EV Hub flexible manufacturing facility in Ohio, built on the same assembly line as the Acura Integra at the Marysville Auto Plant. This facility can produce internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and electric vehicles on the same line, underscoring Honda’s flexible manufacturing strategy.
Honda is making significant progress in the establishment of the Honda EV Hub in Ohio. Construction progress continues at L-H Battery Company, Inc., a joint venture EV battery facility near Jeffersonville, Ohio, with the facility scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024, boasting an annual capacity of approximately 40GWh.
The Acura RSX will go into production in late 2025, marking the start of EV production at the Honda EV Hub. Honda has committed to investing at least $700 million to transform its Marysville Auto Plant, East Liberty Auto Plant, and Anna Engine Plant to lead the start of EV production in North America.
The Acura RSX represents Acura’s strategic move into electrification with a fully in-house developed electric platform, modern software, and flexible US-based production, coming to market in the latter half of 2026.
Before its public debut at Pebble Beach, the Acura RSX was introduced during Monterey Car Week, a top gathering of automotive and motorsports enthusiasts. The Acura RSX will make its public debut at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering on Friday, Aug. 16.
As Honda works toward the start of EV production at the Marysville Auto Plant in late 2025, retooling efforts are well underway. The Honda EV Hub will produce the first Acura SUV, with production starting in late 2025. The all-new Acura model based on the Acura Performance EV Concept will be the first model engineered on the new Honda-developed EV platform and the first EV produced at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio.
The Acura Performance EV Concept showcases the performance brand's vision for its all-electric vehicles of the future. The Acura RSX is set to redefine the premium, performance-oriented electric SUV segment.
