Federal Statistical Office Uses Matomo for User-Focused Website Analytics

The Federal Statistical Office's website utilizes Matomo, a web analytics service, to enhance user experience and optimize performance. ITZBund, the service provider, hosts Matomo on its web servers, with the IT and web administration teams overseeing analytics and optimization. User consent, as per Art. 6 (1) a) GDPR and § 25 (1) TTDSG, serves as the legal basis for processing.

Upon visiting the website, the script 'matomo.js' is activated, and a cookie named 'matomoTracking' is set. Matomo then generates a unique fingerprint for each user, comprising the IP address, the specific pages accessed, the referrer, visit duration, and frequency of website access. This fingerprint aids in understanding user behavior and preferences, enabling the website to improve its services.

The Federal Statistical Office's use of Matomo for website analytics is subject to user consent. The service is hosted by ITZBund, with the IT and web administration teams managing the process. By understanding user interactions through Matomo's fingerprinting, the website aims to enhance user experience and optimize its performance.
