Enhancement steps undertaken by the Commission aim to boost the productivity within the aviation industry.

EVIA AERO, a German regional airline, is taking a significant step towards a decarbonized aviation industry by opting for hydrogen-electric propulsion technology. The company has agreed to acquire six units of the Beech 1900D-HE aircraft, equipped with Stralis' innovative technology.

The heart of the development is Stralis' high-temperature PEM fuel cell technology, which is lighter and enables greater ranges than battery-electric solutions at lower costs. This technology powers the Beech 1900D-HE aircraft, producing no CO2 emissions, emitting only water vapor.

These converted aircraft are expected to enter service in regional flights by 2030, serving potential direct connections in regions like the Mediterranean, North and East Coast, or the Alps. They can carry up to 15 passengers and have a range of 800 kilometers, making them ideal for short and medium-haul routes.

The collaboration between EVIA AERO and Stralis includes plans to work together on the necessary infrastructure to enable the widespread use of hydrogen-electric aircraft in Europe. This includes transforming regional airports into energy hubs powered by locally generated green electricity.

Stralis aims to open the door to emission-free flying on short and medium-haul routes with this technology. The company's goal is to take a significant step towards a decarbonized aviation industry, and EVIA AERO shares this vision. The airline aims to make regional flights more efficient and climate-friendly with this innovative technology.

The collaboration between EVIA AERO and Stralis serves as a model for the entire aviation industry. The additional ten aircraft optionally planned for acquisition by EVIA AERO could potentially benefit both business travel and tourism, connecting smaller towns without additional climate strain. At cruising speed, they can reach 500 km/h at cruising altitude, supplementing and accelerating existing transport networks.

Stralis promises up to 50% lower operating costs compared to conventional aircraft due to the hydrogen-electric propulsion system. This cost-effectiveness, combined with the environmental benefits, makes this technology an attractive solution for the aviation industry.

As we move towards a more sustainable future, collaborations like the one between EVIA AERO and Stralis are crucial in reducing the carbon footprint of the aviation industry. The future of regional flights looks promising with the introduction of hydrogen-electric propulsion technology, and we can look forward to a more efficient, cleaner, and exciting aviation industry.
