Elon Musk Steps Down from Government Posts Without Final Talk with Trump

In a sudden and unceremonious departure, billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has left the Trump administration. A White House representative confirmed Musk's departure upon request, stating that his off-boarding process would begin on Wednesday evening (local time).

Musk expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for the opportunity to serve as a special government employee at the Office of Government Efficiency. However, contrary to expectations, there was no final conversation between the two before Musk's departure, which was reportedly decided at the "highest level."

Musk's 130-day term as a special government employee was due to expire around May 30. The Trump administration stated that the efforts of the DOGE agency to restructure and reduce the federal government would continue. Musk had been granted unprecedented authority by Trump to dismantle parts of the US government during his tenure.

Recently, Musk expressed disappointment over the cost of the Republicans' tax and spending bills, directly referencing Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" making its way through Congress. He criticized the bill for increasing the deficit and undermining the work of the DOGE team.

Prevailing speculation suggests Musk's political activities have been met with international protests and criticisms from some Tesla investors, who have called for him to focus more on the electric vehicle company. Musk himself had earlier accused his agency, the DOGE Office, of being a "punching bag" for everything.
