Electric Vehicles MG Comet and ZS EV Introduce Battery-as-a-Service Rental Plan; Base Price Sets at ₹4.99 Lakh

In a move to make electric vehicle (EV) ownership more accessible and flexible, MG Motor India has extended its Battery as a Service (BaaS) program to the MG Comet and ZS EV.

Initially introduced with the MG Windsor, the BaaS program allows customers to purchase vehicles at a reduced price and pay for the battery separately based on actual usage. This innovative approach separates the cost of the battery from the vehicle purchase price, making EV ownership more affordable for many.

Under the BaaS program, the MG ZS EV now starts at ₹13.99 lakh, with a battery rental cost of ₹4.5 per kilometre. Similarly, the base version of the MG Comet EV now retails at ₹4.99 lakh, with a battery rental cost of ₹2.5 per kilometre.

The price differences for the MG Comet EV and ZS EV with the BaaS programme are substantial, with savings of ₹2 lakh and ₹4.99 lakh, respectively, compared to their old prices. It's worth noting that both the MG Comet and ZS EV retain their original batteries and electric motors under the BaaS program.

MG has collaborated with several partners to facilitate the adoption of electric vehicles under the BaaS program. These partners include Bajaj Finserv, Hero Fincorp, Vidyut, and Ecofy Autovert, as well as clean-tech institutions like Ecofy and the JSW Group.

Satinder Singh Bajwa, Chief Commercial Officer of JSW MG Motor India, stated that the BaaS programme will further boost EV adoption in the country. He added that the program aims to relieve users from concerns related to battery degradation or performance over time, as MG takes care of the battery management for vehicles under the BaaS program.

Moreover, the ranges and performance figures of the MG Comet and ZS EV remain the same under the BaaS program. The BaaS program offers an assured buyback guarantee of 60% after three years for vehicles purchased under the program, providing customers with peace of mind.

With the introduction of the BaaS program to the MG Comet and ZS EV, MG Motor India continues to demonstrate its commitment to making EV ownership more accessible and flexible for Indian consumers. Critical details such as the minimum billing amount required for the BaaS program have yet to be disclosed by MG. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the EV market.
