Eero announces Signal for addressing internet outages and PoE 7 for compatibility with Wi-Fi 7 technology
In a recent announcement, eero, the popular Wi-Fi system provider, unveiled the eero PoE 7, a multi-gigabit, tri-band Wi-Fi 7 access point designed for businesses and homes with high-bandwidth needs.
The eero PoE 7 is not just a Wi-Fi access point; it doubles as a smart home hub, supporting Matter, Thread, and Zigbee. It can be flush mounted to ceilings and walls, and it can handle up to 200 connected devices.
For those seeking a reliable backup solution, eero also introduced the eero Signal. This companion device provides cellular connectivity for eero networks during an internet speed test outage. However, it can only be used for backup connectivity at a single location and requires an existing primary internet connection.
The eero Signal automatically detects an internet outage and switches to a cellular backup connection to keep the network online. Backup data for eero Signal is available through an annual eero Plus subscription.
For customers who experience more frequent internet outages and need more backup data, an annual eero Plus 100 plan will provide up to 100 GB of backup data during an internet speed test outage per month. New and existing subscribers to an annual eero Plus plan will receive up to 10 GB of backup data during an internet speed test outage per year at no additional cost.
Starting November 2021, the eero PoE 7 will be available for purchase through internet service providers and professional installers in the USA and Canada. It can be powered by the eero PoE Gateway and other compatible PoE switches.
The eero PoE 7 delivers wireless speeds up to 3.9 Gbp and wired speeds up to 9.4 Gbps through its two 10 GbE ports. It will be available as a one-pack for $499.99.
In addition, eero is introducing new offerings for professional installers who set up and install eero networks for customers. They will now be able to sell eero Plus and eero Business subscriptions. When the installer is finishing the setup of an eero system in the app and transfers the network to the customer, they will have the ability to upgrade the account to add eero Plus or eero Business.
The eero Signal 4G LTE will be available in the U.S. via eero.com, Amazon.com, and through select internet service providers early next year for $99.99. The eero Signal 5G RedCap will be available in 2026 for $199.
