Lexus Unveils Electrified Sport Concept at Auto Shanghai, Embracing the Future of BEVs
At this year's Auto Shanghai motor show, Lexus International showcased its commitment to electrification technology and the preservation of its unique driving feel and design.
Takashi Watanabe, the new President of Lexus International, was introduced at the event. Mr. Watanabe, who began working on the RZ as chief engineer, emphasized the importance of the Lexus Spirit in guiding the company's approach to battery electric vehicle (BEV) production.
The spirit of Lexus carmaking, known as monozukuri, centers on the pursuit of crafting vehicles that embody meticulous attention to detail, refined craftsmanship, and an exceptional customer experience. This ethos focuses on blending advanced technology with human-centric design and quality control to create premium vehicles that delight customers.
The Lexus Electrified Sport Concept, unveiled at the motor show, is a symbol of the brand's vision for enhancing its unique driving feel and design through electrification technology. Two customized RZ concepts embodied Lexus's ambition, demonstrating the company's dedication to creating a sense of "comforting luxury."
Akio Toyoda, master driver, expressed his satisfaction with the RZ after testing it, saying, "Now this is a Lexus." Li Hui, Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd., also spoke about Lexus's dedication to creating a sense of comforting luxury. He mentioned that Chairman Akio Toyoda works directly with development teams to test and improve Lexus cars.
The concern was that all cars would start to resemble each other in the shift to BEVs. However, Lexus aims to continue offering cherished vehicles that enrich customers' diverse lifestyles without turning cars into a commodity. The RZ450e, the first concrete step toward making this future a reality, integrates cutting-edge electric technology while maintaining Lexus's hallmark refinement and reliability.
The goal for Lexus was to bring smiles to customers' faces through unique designs and driving experiences with electrification technologies. The flagship MPV model of Lexus, the LM, also made its world premiere at the Auto Shanghai motor show.
The Chinese market's rapid shift to electric and smart technologies was prominently on display at the Auto Shanghai motor show.
