Digital network expansion in Heusenstamm: Providing free Wi-Fi for everyone
Heusenstamm and Rembrucken are set to enhance their digital infrastructure, thanks to a new project that aims to establish 40 free public Wi-Fi hotspots across both municipalities. Funding for this initiative comes from the state program "Digital Village Linde" in Hesse.
The project, dubbed "Public Wi-Fi for Heusenstamm", will see the implementation of digital access points at strategic locations such as Frankfurter Street, the train station, the fire station in Heusenstamm, and various other spots in Rembrucken. Already active are access points at the castle town hall, the gatehouse, the old linden tree, the swimming pool, the bus station, and the culture and sports center Martinsee.
The technical implementation of these digital access points is the responsibility of the employees from the public works department, while project coordination is handled by the municipal IT department and the digitalization division. These digital access points are protected by various filter mechanisms to ensure the safety and appropriateness of the content, blocking any youth-endangering or questionable content.
In addition, users can find an interactive Wi-Fi map on heusenstamm.de, providing an overview of all active and planned hotspots. To stay updated on city and district news from Offenbach, users can subscribe to a free newsletter. It's essential to check the inbox or spam folder to confirm the subscription. Rest assured, the newsletter does not send spam.
Privacy is a top priority for this project. No personal data is stored at these digital access points, and users remain invisible to each other. This initiative is part of the city's digital strategy, aiming to provide a low-threshold access to the internet for all generations.
By the end of the project, there will be a total of 40 hotspots at 18 locations in Heusenstamm and Rembrucken. The city council approved this project in September 2023, marking a significant step towards a more connected future for these municipalities. Users can connect to these digital access points under the network name "Hessen WLAN".
The project, named "Public Wi-Fi for Heusenstamm", will include implementation of other technology-based digital access points, expanding beyond the initial locations like Frankfurter Street, the train station, and the fire station in Heusenstamm, to various points in Rembrucken. By the end of the project, a total of 40 hotspots at 18 locations will be running, providing low-threshold access to the internet for all generations.
