Investigators are delving into a recent assault on the voting process - Digital authorities are currently examining an alleged cyber assault on the electoral process.

The Public Prosecutor's Office in Cologne has taken over the investigation of a server attack that occurred during a local election in North Rhine-Westphalia. The attack, which is the subject of an ongoing investigation, was an overload attack that temporarily disrupted the result display between 18:00 and 18:15.

The investigation is being handled by the Central and Contact Point Cybercrime (ZAC) of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Cologne, in collaboration with the State Criminal Police Office (LKA). IT.NRW, the information technology service provider for North Rhine-Westphalia, confirmed that no one gained access to the system during the attack, and it was not a hacker attack.

The suspected crime is computer sabotage, but the nature of the computer sabotage has not been specified. The investigation is focused on unknown individuals, and the name of the suspected individual or group involved in the attack has not been disclosed.
