Dekra Launches Battery Testing Facility in Klettwitz
DEKRA, a global leader in testing and certification services, has recently commissioned a new battery testing center at Lausitzring in Brandenburg. The center, which was built over a period of approximately 15 months, is part of DEKRA's strategy to expand its service portfolio for the automotive and supplier industries.
The new center will primarily focus on testing batteries for electric vehicles, but it will also be used for testing batteries in other applications. This expansion at the Klettwitz site has led to a significant increase in employment, with the number of employees rising from 70 to 290 since DEKRA's takeover eight years ago. Up to 40 additional jobs are planned for the new battery testing center.
The testing center offers a comprehensive range of services, including development-related tests, homologation, certification, and market surveillance. It is equipped to conduct mechanical, performance, environmental, and abuse tests, ensuring that batteries meet the highest standards of safety and performance.
DEKRA's new battery testing center has attracted interest from several companies and institutions, including Ascend Elements from the USA and GEM from China. These entities are particularly interested in collaborating with DEKRA for battery regulations and battery passport recycling in Europe.
The investment for the new battery testing center is in the tens of millions, reflecting DEKRA's commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry. The new center complements the existing testing and service offerings at the Klettwitz site, further solidifying DEKRA's position as a leading provider of testing and certification services.
