DeepMind & Lovegrove Studio Unveil AI-Generated Chair Design
DeepMind and Lovegrove Studio have collaborated to create an AI tool that captures the unique design style of Ross Lovegrove. The project, which involved creating a chair design from initial concept to physical product, marks a significant step in using generative AI in design.
The team, led by Mike Lovegrove from Lovegrove Studio, fine-tuned DeepMind's Imagen model on a curated dataset of Ross' sketches. They aimed to translate his organic, fluid-like structures and biomorphic forms into AI-generated outputs. Throughout the process, Lovegrove Studio refined prompts based on the model's responses, ensuring the designs aligned with their vision.
The collaborative effort resulted in a chair design that Lovegrove Studio deemed an authentic extension of their work. DeepMind then created a physical version of the design using metal 3D printing, demonstrating the practical application of generative AI in design.
This project showcases the potential of generative AI in design, with DeepMind's tool successfully capturing and expressing Ross Lovegrove's artistic vision.
