A New 24/7 Cyber Crime Helpline Centre Opens in Lucknow to Combat Financial Cybercrime

A new 30-seat Cyber Crime Helpline Centre has been inaugurated in Lucknow's PGI area, aiming to address the rising number of cybercrime complaints. The centre, located at the DCP South office in Kalli Paschim, operates 24 hours a day, with 50 callers always available to assist victims.

The centre's primary focus is to register online complaints from victims of financial cybercrime. All types of online financial crimes can now be registered at cybercrime police stations in Uttar Pradesh, with the monetary limit for registering cases removed.

Victims can call the dedicated toll-free helpline number 1930 to file complaints. A team of 50 call handlers and 94 trained staff will receive the complaint and record the details. The complaint details are then entered and updated on the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) portal, facilitating coordination between police, banks, and telecom service providers for swift action.

Alternatively, victims can also file complaints directly online at the central government’s cybercrime portal https://cybercrime.gov.in.

The helpline assists in coordination and escalation of complaints. The government is also exploring mechanisms to return frozen funds to victims without requiring an FIR, aiming to reduce victim inconvenience.

In addition to the helpline, a Cyber Fraud Mitigation Center (CFMC) will be launched at the centre's location, in collaboration with banks. The CFMC will allow police, bank, and telecom personnel to provide immediate assistance under one roof.

The centre supplements the existing 20-seat call center at UP 112 headquarters and is staffed by 94 trained police personnel, including constables, sub-inspectors, and inspectors. The first batch of Cyber Commandos, trained officers appointed at each zonal headquarters to assist investigators with complex cybercrime cases, has also been deployed in Uttar Pradesh.

The centre was inaugurated by DGP Rajeev Krishna and ADG Cyber Crime Binod Kumar Singh. Complaints lodged at the centre will also be displayed at the 14C Cybercrime Headquarters and various cybercrime headquarters and relevant police stations.

In conclusion, victims may either dial 1930 for helpline assistance in filing and processing complaints or directly use the online complaint portal (cybercrime.gov.in) for filing financial fraud complaints related to cybercrimes in Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh. The new Cyber Crime Helpline Centre and the upcoming Cyber Fraud Mitigation Center aim to improve the response to and investigation of cybercrime cases in the region.
