Customs Raid in Lower Franconia Uncovers 80+ Minimum Wage Violations
The Main Customs Office Schweinfurt recently conducted a focused inspection on September 22, 2025, targeting the catering and accommodation sector in Lower Franconia and parts of Upper Franconia. The inspection aimed to ensure compliance with the statutory minimum wage, social security obligations, and uncover improper receipt of social benefits and illegal employment.
The inspection involved 27 businesses, with 116 persons interviewed and 30 on-site investigations carried out. More than 80 cases of suspected violations of the Anti-Black Work Act were identified, including discrepancies in social security payments, immigration law violations, minimum wage non-compliance, and notification obligation violations. The hotel and catering industry is a focus for the customs in their fight against black work, with the general minimum wage set at 12.82 euros per hour since January 1, 2025.
The customs contribute to the security of social systems and state revenues, ensuring fair working conditions and competitive business environments. They follow up with comprehensive checks, comparing employee data with payroll and financial records.
The search results do not specifically mention a control action against illegal work and unauthorized employment contracts in the hospitality and accommodation industry in the Bamberg, Schweinfurt, and Würzburg area. However, the Financial Control of Undeclared Work (Finanzkontrolle Schwarzarbeit) has conducted inspections in various regions, including nearby areas, to maintain fair working conditions and protect state revenues.
