Customers can now boost their deposit options for cash through a new feature, the 'Barcode Cash Deposit' app, launched in collaboration between Lloyds and PayPoint.
Lloyds Bank Introduces Cash Deposit Feature at PayPoint Locations Across the UK
Lloyds Bank customers can now conveniently deposit cash using a barcode generated through the Lloyds banking app at over 30,000 PayPoint stores nationwide. These stores, typically local shops, petrol stations, or convenience stores, are widely available across the UK, making cash deposits easy and accessible.
The barcode can be generated in the 'Everyday' area of the Lloyds app and scanned at the PayPoint locations. Customers can deposit up to £300 in notes and coins per day with a monthly limit of £600. The barcode is valid for two hours, facilitating quick and secure cash deposits during everyday errands like shopping or parcel drop-offs.
In addition to the PayPoint locations, Lloyds customers can use branches of Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland to pay in cash directly at counters. Lloyds' cash in and out machines spread across the country are another option for cash deposits. Customers can also visit nationwide Banking Hubs staffed by Post Office counter services for cash services. Over 11,500 Post Office locations, which support everyday banking including cash deposits, are also available for customers.
This multi-channel approach reflects Lloyds' strategy to offer increased convenience and alternatives as branch closures continue, integrating cash handling more seamlessly into daily activities beyond bank branches. PayPoint, originally a retail network serving everyday errands (bill payments, parcels), now also offers cash deposits for Lloyds customers, leveraging the proximity of 99.5% of the UK population to a PayPoint store.
Lloyds is the first major UK bank to implement this barcode cash deposit feature at PayPoint, reflecting a move towards hybrid physical-digital ("phygital") banking experiences. While there are transaction limits and fees at PayPoint for some other services, the current app-based barcode system seems designed for simplicity and accessibility without explicit mention of fees in the latest Lloyds rollout.

Making use of the Lloyds banking app, customers can now deposit cash seamlessly by generating a barcode in the 'Everyday' section and scanning it at over 30,000 PayPoint stores for finance management. As a result, the incorporation of technology and business strategies allows Lloyds Bank customers to make cash deposits conveniently, alongside their everyday errands like shopping or parcel drop-offs.
In the ever-evolving finance landscape, Lloyds Bank's innovative approach to cash deposits at PayPoint stores exemplifies the trend toward hybrid, or "phygital," banking experiences, blending physical and digital services. This shift, as announced in the latest Lloyds rollout, ensures customers have increased convenience and alternatives, whether accessing services through a PayPoint, a Lloyds Bank, Halifax, or Bank of Scotland branch, a cash in and out machine, or banking hubs.
