Custom-made TSMC employee luggage offered for sale online, fetching prices up to a staggering $16,700.
Taking a Peek at TSMC's Employee-Exclusive 20-inch Swanky Suitcase
Uh oh, the buzz is real! TSMC's employee-only 20-inch suitcase is fetching an astounding NT$500,000-roughly US$15,500-on resale sites. Can't blame 'em, it's a magnificent piece of gear.
Inside TSMC's inner circle, custom-made goodies are more than coveted. Remember the infamous TSMC Starbucks mugs and even the deliciously co-branded snack products? Yeah, they're all the rage.
The scarcity of TSMC-branded items, initially available only to employees, gives these items a hefty price tag even upon release, gracefully gracing the resale market with exorbitant bids. Case in point, this flashy suitcase, a collaborative project between TSMC and Eminent, is calling for a closer inspection.
Lookie here 😲 These silver suitcases, with their subtle resemblance to computer chips, are constructed from Covestro AG's Makrolon polycarbonate, a German-made material renowned for its unparalleled strength, lightweight nature, and transparency. It's also remarkably impact-resistant, even at frigid temperatures.
The case measures 56 x 36 x 23cm, fitting comfortably as a 20-inch suitcase, and weighs around 2.9kg (6.4 pounds) when empty. This Taiwan-born and bred (thanks to Eminent) masterpiece boasts a sturdily impressive 5-year warranty.
The Big Question: How Much Should You Pay?
Taking a gander at the new TSMC suitcase listings, it's clear that you can snag it for a more reasonable price. However, the best deals are often pre-orders, which come with a fair share of uncertainties.
You won't believe it, but the NT$500,000-worth seller hadn't even gotten their hands on the suitcase yet, promising a shipping date before June 30.
Our hunting endeavors through the Shopee listings led us to a reseller offering a single unit for US$334 (NT$10,000). The majority of other sellers were, interestingly, listing goods they didn't yet have in their possession.
Aside from the suitcase, the listings gave us a sneak peek into Taiwan's adoration for TSMC-branded Starbucks mugs, sportswear accessories, cellphones, and Guai Guai, a Taiwanese snack. Try not to snap 'em all up, will ya?
