Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Nio surpasses 1,000 swap station milestone on highways, marking significant expansion and convenience for users.

## Expansion of Nio's Battery Swap Station Network

In a significant stride towards enhancing electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, Nio, a leading Chinese EV manufacturer, has been expanding its battery swap station network both domestically and internationally.

### Current Network in China

As of July 2025, Nio operates a total of **3,399 battery swap stations** in China, including **1,000 stations along highways**. This network has provided over **79 million battery swap services**[1][2]. The stations are strategically located to cover major intercity expressways, connecting **550 cities** across China. This extensive coverage significantly alleviates range anxiety for both Nio and ONVO brand users[1][2].

Besides battery swap stations, Nio also has **2,883 supercharging stations** and **1,776 destination charging stations** in China, offering a comprehensive charging network[1][4].

### Overseas Expansion

Nio has **60 battery swap stations operational in Europe** as part of its international expansion efforts[1]. The company is continuing to expand its battery swap network globally, though specific details on future overseas expansion plans are not detailed in the recent announcements.

### Future Plans for China

In an effort to further expand its reach, Nio has announced the **"Power UP 2024" Initiative**. The goal is to extend the battery swap and charging network to cover every county in China by **December 31, 2025**. This initiative involves expanding to over **2,300 county-level administrative divisions** across 27 provincial-level regions by the end of 2025, and further expanding to **2,800+ counties** starting in **2026**[2].

Nio is also actively forging alliances with other automotive brands to create an open and interoperable energy ecosystem, enhancing the accessibility of its charging infrastructure[2]. In line with this, Tesla's Supercharging facilities in China are now open to other brands, including the latest V4 Superchargers.

As of now, no automotive partners of Nio have launched models based on the company's standards. However, Nio's battery swap stations are currently exclusive to Nio and Onvo sub-brands, with plans for Firefly vehicles to access the network after the launch of the fifth-generation battery swap station next year.

### Partnership with CATL

In a significant development, Nio has partnered with CATL to create the world's largest battery swap network. The partnership aims to accelerate the deployment of battery swap stations, further enhancing the convenience and accessibility of electric vehicles for users[1].

The electric vehicle industry in China is rapidly evolving, and Nio's expansion of its battery swap station network is a testament to the company's commitment to providing high-quality, accessible charging solutions for its users. The company's focus on creating an interoperable energy ecosystem, along with its ongoing expansion efforts, position Nio at the forefront of the EV revolution in China and beyond.
