Century Lithium Praises Initial Production of LFP Battery Cells Utilizing Century Lithium Material in Manufacturing Process

Century Lithium Corporation, a leading lithium producer, has played a pivotal role in the production of commercial-grade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) 18650-format battery cells by First Phosphate Corporation. These LFP cells, assembled by Ultion Technologies Inc. in Las Vegas, Nevada, were produced using entirely North American-sourced critical minerals.

Century Lithium's lithium carbonate, derived from its Angel Island project in Nevada and processed at its Demonstration Plant, was a critical input in the production process. This milestone validates Century Lithium's resource quality and processing technology, as First Phosphate found their lithium carbonate suitable for high-performance LFP battery applications.

The use of domestically sourced lithium carbonate is expected to strengthen the North American supply chain, reducing dependency on foreign suppliers and enhancing supply chain resilience for electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage sectors. Moreover, Century Lithium's low-carbon lithium products support cleaner energy solutions consistent with decarbonization goals.

LFP batteries, favoured for their safety, longevity, and cost-effectiveness, have broad applications ranging from EVs to consumer electronics to grid storage. This collaboration positions North America as a key player in battery technology innovation and production.

The collaboration also encourages further permitting, engineering, and innovation activities at Century Lithium's Nevada facilities, fostering regional economic growth and technological advancement. Century Lithium's President and CEO, Bill Willoughby, stated that he is pleased that First Phosphate found their lithium carbonate suitable for use in producing LFP battery cells.

The implications for the North American supply chain are substantial. Utilizing domestically sourced lithium carbonate reduces dependency on foreign suppliers, enhancing supply chain resilience for EV and energy storage sectors. Furthermore, the collaboration encourages further permitting, engineering, and innovation activities at Century Lithium's Nevada facilities, fostering regional economic growth and technological advancement.

In addition, the LFP cathode and anode materials for the First Phosphate 18650 LFP battery cells were produced using North American critical minerals. The high-purity phosphoric acid and iron powder used in the production of the LFP battery cells were sourced from First Phosphate's Bégin-Lamarche property in Quebec, Canada.

Overall, Century Lithium's contribution helps build a North American critical minerals supply chain that is more self-reliant, sustainable, and capable of meeting the growing demand for clean energy batteries. This milestone marks a significant step toward establishing a fully localized North American supply chain for LFP battery manufacturing.

  1. Century Lithium's contribution to the production process of First Phosphate's LFP battery cells, which was done using its own lithium carbonate sourced from the Angel Island project in Nevada, highlights the company's expertise in data-and-cloud-computing-driven lithium extraction and technology.
  2. The partnership between Century Lithium and First Phosphate, both key players in the industry, is set to boost North American finance by fostering economic growth and technological advancement in the energy sector, particularly in the sphere of business related to battery technology and clean energy.
  3. As Century Lithium's low-carbon lithium products support cleaner energy solutions that are aligned with decarbonization goals, the collaboration also emphasizes the corporation's commitment to finance and technology that promotes sustainable development and energy security within North America.
