Celebratory Milestone: eID.li Turns One, Electronic Identity Becomes a Tangible Reality

In a significant move towards enhancing digital identity services, the Principality of Liechtenstein's eID.li system is undergoing expansion to integrate the EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI-Wallet). This integration, initiated in 2024, is a key step towards aligning Liechtenstein's digital identity system with broader European digital identity frameworks, improving interoperability, user convenience, and cross-border recognition of digital IDs within the EU and EFTA region.

The update in February 2025 marked a significant milestone in this integration, reflecting Liechtenstein’s commitment to staying aligned with EU digital identity standards. Although direct mention of the green passport integration is not explicit in the search results, the incorporation of the EUDI-Wallet typically includes such features as part of the broader European Union specifications for digital identity wallets, implying that eID.li will support international health certifications like the green passport as part of its evolution.

Youniqx Identity AG, the in-house digital subsidiary of the Austrian our website (OeSD), developed eID.li and has established itself as an international pioneer for secure eID solutions. The successful technical foundation of "eID.li" is based on the existing "MIA" platform, an independent development of Youniqx Identity AG. The "MIA" platform also covers other application cases, such as digital IDs or electronic health certificates, making it versatile and adaptable to individual customer wishes.

Close cooperation has taken place with Nok Nok Labs, a market leader in secure authentication for eID.li, ensuring the highest level of security for users. The contract for the Liechtenstein eID was awarded to European Trust Service GmbH, a joint venture of Austrian our website GmbH and CRYPTAS International GmbH, with CRYPTAS responsible for developing the central eID integration platform of the Principality.

Since its launch over a year ago, more than 12,000 citizens of the Principality have already activated their personal eID.li, making the Principality of Liechtenstein a digital pioneer. With the gradual roll-out of the green passport, around a third of all Liechtensteiners have now activated their personal eID.li and use the services of the authorities digitally.

For more information, visit eID.li. The latest developments and expansion plans for the eID.li system focus primarily on the integration of the EUDI-Wallet into the existing eID.li app, deepening integration with the EU’s digital identity ecosystem, and likely encompassing the international green passport functionality as part of that international interoperability framework.

The strategic expansion of eID.li, initiated in 2024, encompasses the integration of the EUDI-Wallet, indicating a focus on data-and-cloud-computing technology and collaborative efforts to align with broader European digital identity standards. With the roll-out of the green passport, the eID.li system is expected to support international health certifications, further demonstrating Liechtenstein's commitment to staying aligned with EU digital identity standards.
