Celebrating Half a Century of Fullfield Riflescopes: Burris Optics Marks Milestone Anniversary

In 1975, Burris Optics, one of over 50 subsidiaries of the Beretta Holding Group, introduced its Fullfield line of riflescopes. The brainchild of founder Don Burris, who started his company with a mission to improve riflescope performance, the Fullfield riflescopes have been a staple in the American hunting community for over 50 years.

From the outset, Burris recognised the importance of quality construction, the need for maximum light transmission, and a generous field of view (FOV). The original Fullfield scope models offered 53 percent more field of view than conventional scopes and 23 percent greater FOV than wide-angle scopes of the time. This made them a game-changer in the world of hunting optics.

In 1977, Burris Optics took a significant step forward by introducing Hi-Lume lenses into its variable-power scope line. These lenses enhanced visibility by 20 percent, providing hunters with a clearer, brighter view of their targets.

Throughout the years, Burris Optics continued to innovate and improve its Fullfield riflescopes. In 1980, they introduced Fullfield "mini-scope" variants for carbines and compact rifles, as well as fixed-power models offering long eye relief for Model 1894 Winchesters and pistols.

The fifth-generation Fullfield riflescope was introduced in 2025, maintaining Burris's "hunter first" approach to engineering. Hi-Lume lenses, offering 99.5 percent light transmission through each lens surface, are still a key feature of these scopes. The fifth-generation Fullfield riflescope continues the wide FOV characteristics that the Burris legend was built upon, delivering the performance every shooter expects.

Over the decades, the Burris Fullfield product line has been used by multiple generations of passionate and demanding hunters. From the early Fullfield models with their 4X, 2-7X, and 3-9X magnification, to the modern fifth-generation scopes, Burris Optics has consistently delivered high-quality, reliable, and innovative riflescopes.

Today, Burris Optics remains based in Greeley, Colo., continuing to push the boundaries of what's possible in hunting optics. The company's commitment to quality, innovation, and the needs of hunters is as strong today as it was when Don Burris first started his company in 1971. The Burris Fullfield riflescope line, a part of the Beretta Holding Group, continues to be a trusted name in the world of hunting optics.
