Carry your PlayStation 5 controller with you anytime, thanks to the latest update - here's what's different now
The tech giant Sony is set to release a new system software update for the PlayStation 5 on September 17. This update brings exciting new features, including the long-awaited Power Saver option and an improved controller pairing system.
The Power Saver feature, part of Sony's "Road to Zero" environmental plan, aims to reduce the PS5's power consumption and contribute to achieving "net-zero greenhouse gas emissions" by 2040. While some games, such as Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and the upcoming Ghost of Yōtei, may not support the Power Saver feature yet, future updates will enable it for them. The next game to adopt this feature is Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, followed by Demon’s Souls and Ghost of Yōtei.
In terms of controller pairing, the DualSense wireless controller can now be paired with up to four different devices simultaneously. Each device corresponds to a specific action button (Triangle, Circle, Cross, Square) and slot number. To connect the controller with a device, turn on Bluetooth on the device and select "Add Bluetooth devices." Then, press and hold the corresponding action button and the PS button for 3 seconds. The light bar will turn on, and the player indicator lights will blink according to the slot number.
To switch between devices, press the PS button and the corresponding action button. The light bar and player indicator lights will blink according to the slot number when switching between devices. To pair the controller with a device, turn off the controller, then press and hold an action button and the PS button for 5 seconds. The light bar will flash two times, indicating it is ready to be paired.
Sony has also provided a video demonstration of the process on their official PlayStation X account. The new system software update, along with the introduction of the Power Saver feature and enhanced controller pairing, promises to offer a more efficient and versatile gaming experience for PS5 users.
While the immediate impact of the Power Saver feature may not be significant, it could be helpful over time in reducing the PS5's environmental footprint. The devices that can connect with the DualSense wireless controller, based on operating system, include Windows 10 (64 bit), macOS Big Sur 11.3, iOS 14.5, iPadOS 14.5, tvOS 14.5, and Android™ 12.
