BYD Sealion 07 Makes Debut in Nepal, Marking Expansion into Global Markets
In a significant move, Chinese automotive giant BYD has launched the Sealion 07 electric SUV in Nepal, marking its entry into the Nepalese passenger vehicle market. The Sealion 07, a testament to BYD's cutting-edge battery technology and design, is positioned as a competitive global electric SUV, aiming to challenge the likes of Tesla Model Y, Zeekr 7X, and NIO ES6 in the premium segment.
The Sealion 07 is powered by BYD's advanced e-Platform 3.0 (or its Evo), which integrates the company's innovative Blade Battery lithium iron phosphate cells. This technology offers two battery sizes—82.5 kWh and 91.3 kWh—with corresponding ranges of up to approximately 300 to 312 miles depending on model and drivetrain. The vehicle supports fast DC charging up to 230 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in around 24 minutes for the larger battery.
The Sealion 07 offers powertrain options including rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD), with combined motor output up to about 530 horsepower. Its sporty and youthful exterior features a coupe-like sloping roof, 19-inch alloy wheels, and sharp LED lighting, while the interior boasts a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment display, ambient lighting, a leather multifunction steering wheel, and an “Ocean Aesthetics” design theme for a tech-savvy feel.
The Sealion 07 is the fourth pure electric vehicle and the sixth model available in Nepal from BYD, following the entry of the automaker into the Nepalese market in October 2022. The starting price for the Sealion 07 in Nepal is 7.499 million Nepalese rupees ($53,620).
Interestingly, the Sealion 07 is not known by a different name in China, unlike some other BYD models. In contrast, the Atto 3, which is known as the Yuan Plus in China, is not one of the models available on the website of Cimex Inc., BYD's distributor in Nepal.
BYD has been making waves in the global automotive industry. In June 2022, the company sold 90,049 vehicles overseas, marking a 233.58% year-on-year increase and a 1.13% month-on-month increase. This success is a testament to BYD's commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.
The company has also reached several significant milestones. In 2018, the BYD e6 was added to the Nepalese presidential fleet, and in July 2023, BYD announced it had produced 13 million NEVs (New Energy Vehicles).
As of July 2023, the starting price for the Sealion 07 in China, as the Sealion 07 EV, is RMB 189,800 ($26,390). The Atto 3, BYD's first model available in the Nepalese passenger vehicle market, is not yet available on the Cimex Inc. website.
