BYD Fang Cheng Bao set to introduce new versions of Bao 5 on February 21, likely equipped with Huawei's smart driving technology.
Fang Cheng Bao, the luxury off-road sub-brand of BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), has announced a significant collaboration with technology giant Huawei. This partnership aims to integrate Huawei's Qiankun Intelligent Driving High-end Function Package into Fang Cheng Bao models, such as the Bao 5 and Bao 8, providing advanced smart driving technology to these vehicles.
The Bao 5, unveiled on August 16, 2023, and the Bao 8, which was the first under the BYD umbrella to feature Huawei's driver assistance system, are now set to benefit from this collaboration. The smart driving technology developed by Huawei includes features like driving-assist functions enabled by sensors such as LiDAR and visual systems, supporting capabilities like Level 2 driving-assist, highway lane changes, and auto-parking.
The Bao 8, also known as the Leopard 8, is noted for its high-performance off-road abilities and smart technology powered by Huawei. The plug-in hybrid model of the Bao 5, which features the FiPilot smart driving system, was launched on November 9, 2023, and is expected to come with LiDAR technology. However, the current model on sale does not use LiDAR; its smart driving hardware includes cameras, ultrasonic radars, and millimeter-wave radars.
Fang Cheng Bao is actively offering promotions on Huawei’s Qiankun Intelligent Driving package, making this advanced smart driving technology more accessible in their lineup, which includes the Bao 5 and Bao 8 models. The launch event for the Smart Driving editions of the Bao 5 will begin at 2 pm Beijing time on February 21, 2025.
In January 2025, Fang Cheng Bao delivered 6,219 vehicles, with 3,210 Bao 5s and 3,009 Bao 8s. In 2024, Fang Cheng Bao delivered 56,388 vehicles, with the Bao 5 contributing 48,913 units, or 86.74 percent.
With this collaboration, Fang Cheng Bao and Huawei are positioning the Bao 5 and Bao 8 as technologically advanced luxury electric SUVs with state-of-the-art smart driving capabilities. This move is expected to attract tech-savvy consumers seeking enhanced intelligent driving experiences in luxury electric SUVs.
