BYD declares Seal 06 as a hybrid electric model intended for the European market
The Chinese automaker BYD is set to expand its electric vehicle lineup in Europe with the introduction of the Seal 06 estate car. Although the exact release date for the estate version in Germany is yet to be confirmed, the Seal series, including the sedan, is expected to be launched in European markets around 2025.
The Seal 06 estate car in China boasts a wheelbase of 2.79 meters, a length of 4.85 meters, a width of 1.89 meters, and a height of 1.50 meters. It is available with 17-inch or 18-inch wheels and features the advanced DM-i Electric Hybrid System. The car is expected to offer a new level in comfort, range, and technology.
While the European version of the Seal 06 has not yet been revealed by BYD, the plug-in hybrid Seal U DM-i mid-size SUV, initially exported as a full electric vehicle, is already available in Germany.
The prices in Germany for the BYD Seal (sedan) are expected to be competitive within the electric segment, likely starting from a mid-range price point above €40,000. This competitive stance against Tesla and other premium EVs is indicative of the pricing for the Seal 06 estate car in Germany.
The Seal 06 estate car will be a plug-in hybrid, featuring a combination of a traditional internal combustion engine with an electric motor, BYD's proprietary Blade Battery technology, efficient fuel economy, a spacious interior, modern infotainment systems, good driving dynamics, and an estate practicality offering increased cargo space over the sedan version.
However, detailed specs for the PHEV version of the BYD Seal 06 estate, such as electric-only range, total power output, or charge times, are not yet disclosed.
The Seal 06 has been on sale in China since May 2024. The entry-level model in China is powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 73 kW/99 PS and an electric motor with 118 kW/161 PS. The second trim level offers approximately 27 kilometers more electric range with an LFP battery of around 16 kWh.
It is worth noting that the limousine version of the Seal 06 and the fully electric variants of the BYD range in Europe are yet to be confirmed. The particularly sporty Seal 06 GT is part of BYD's fully electric range, but its availability in Europe is yet to be confirmed as well.
For the latest and precise information, monitoring official BYD Germany announcements and local dealership releases will be important. Test drives and official launch events are already happening in nearby markets like the UK as of mid-2025, indicating imminent availability in Germany.
