BYD Agrees on Partnership with Safeline Group to initiate Electric Vehicle Adoption in the UAE
In a significant move towards sustainable transport, the Safeline Group in the UAE has partnered with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD to electrify its logistics fleet. The partnership, announced on July 2, was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking the beginning of Safeline's three-year plan to transition its fleet to electric vehicles (EVs).
As part of the agreement, BYD will supply Safeline with 12 all-electric vehicles, with the logistics company committing to acquiring these vehicles as the initial step towards its broader electrification strategy. This collaboration is part of Safeline's strategic sustainability initiative, which is further supported by collaborations with Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility and NIO.
BYD, a globally recognised EV manufacturer, brings its expertise to the table, positioning the UAE as a regional leader in electric mobility. The partnership reflects a growing trend of electrification in Middle Eastern transportation and is expected to inspire other companies in the distribution sector to adopt green mobility solutions.
The transition to EVs is anticipated to have a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions in the UAE's logistics sector. BYD's electric vehicles are expected to improve operational efficiency and support the UAE's broader environmental and sustainability goals. The move aligns with global shifts towards cleaner energy and supports Safeline in meeting regulatory and corporate social responsibility standards.
Dr. Aboobacker Kuttikol, Managing Director of Safeline Group, expressed his commitment to long-term sustainability and innovation through the partnership. He emphasised that the partnership reinforces the growing trend of collaboration between businesses and manufacturers to promote green mobility solutions.
The initial delivery of BYD electric vehicles will lay the foundation for Safeline Group's transformation. As the company evaluates commercial electric vehicles to extend electrification across all operations, it aims to fully convert its fleet from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles within three years.
Mohammad Kassem, Retail Director at BYD Al-Futtaim, emphasised the alliance's role in strengthening Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility's efforts to create a cleaner transport ecosystem in the UAE. The agreement strengthens BYD's presence in the UAE's growing EV market and positions Safeline Group as a pioneer in the distribution sector for green mobility.
This partnership underscores a continued shift towards sustainable transport in the region and supports both corporate and national goals, including the UAE's Net Zero 2050 initiative. The agreement is expected to contribute positively to the reduction of carbon emissions in the UAE's transportation sector and support the country's commitment to a greener future.
