Businesses in the Ingolstadt region now have access to fiber optic services following the collaboration between 1&1 Versatel and COM-IN on open access network.

Business partnership between 1&1 Versatel and COM-IN established for open access fiber optics provision to companies in Ingolstadt area.

In a significant move to enhance digital infrastructure, 1&1 Versatel, a leading fiber optic specialist for business customers and one of Germany's top telecommunications providers, has partnered with COM-IN, a regional telecommunications company based in Ingolstadt. This partnership aims to increase network utilization and efficient use of existing infrastructure, thereby expanding fiber optic availability for businesses across Germany.

1&1 Versatel operates one of the largest and most powerful fiber optic networks in Germany, with approximately 65,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable available in over 350 cities. This extensive network forms the backbone for high-performance broadband connections aimed at both residential and commercial segments.

The partnership with COM-IN, which operates a city-wide fiber optic network, is expected to leverage 1&1 Versatel's fiber infrastructure to expand fiber availability to business customers. Although specific collaboration details are not publicly disclosed, partnerships like these typically focus on accelerating the rollout, improving network management, and ensuring high service reliability.

The overall fiber rollout landscape in Germany is accelerating, with fiber coverage growing by 30% year-on-year. The goal is to achieve 50% household coverage by 2025 and full coverage by 2030. This aggressive expansion benefits business customers as well, as fiber infrastructure investments by providers like 1&1 Versatel tend to encompass commercial hubs and urban centers where demand is high.

The competitive dynamic involving alternative fiber providers like 1&1 Versatel ensures businesses have access to multiple providers, which fosters better service options and helps push fiber expansion even beyond incumbent Telekom’s footprint.

Frank Rosenberger, CEO of 1&1 Versatel, stated that the partnership with COM-IN is an important step towards becoming one of the providers with the largest network reach nationwide. Christian Siebendritt, Managing Director of COM-IN, states that the partnership with 1&1 Versatel enables fair competition, a variety of providers and products, and increases acceptance among customers for the switch to fiber optic, thereby jointly driving digitalization forward on existing structures even faster.

As a result of the partnership, 1&1 Versatel can reach many new customers to quickly provide them with powerful internet and telecommunications services. This partnership is a significant step towards Germany's goal to become a leading digital nation by 2030.
