In the bustling world of e-commerce, Germany's online marketplace is experiencing significant growth, with over 47 million users in 2025 [5]. Amidst this flourishing scene, a new trend is emerging: the use of Pay by Bank options for online transactions. While it is not yet as widespread as other digital payment methods like Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL), card payments, or digital wallets, its growth potential is undeniable.

Recent initiatives, such as the Wero digital wallet by the European Payments Initiative, are aiming to change this landscape. Launched in July 2024, Wero started rolling out online commerce support in mid-2025, with backing by major banks and payment providers [3][4]. However, widespread adoption is still in progress.

In a move to expand the use of Pay by Bank, Brite Payments has partnered with OXID eSales to extend 'Brite Instant Payments' and 'Brite Instant Payouts' to users of OXID's shop system. OXID eSales, a provider of a scalable and customizable shop platform for B2B and B2C businesses across various industries, offers a range of payment solutions to enable merchants to customize their checkout and maximize conversion rates.

Gerd Kasdorf, head of sales at OXID eSales, stated that with Brite Instant Payments, merchants can expand their checkout with a leading Pay by Bank provider. Lena Hackelöer, founder and CEO of Brite Payments, added that Brite Instant Payments can be easily integrated into existing shops to facilitate a smooth payment experience for consumers.

Research by Brite Payments found that 67% of Germans are familiar with Pay by Bank, and four in 10 are willing to try new forms of online payment. Moreover, the use of Pay by Bank options is more prevalent among the younger generation, with 36% of 18 to 29-year-olds using it either daily or weekly.

Merchants stand to benefit from real-time transaction processing with Brite Instant Payments, resulting in predictable cashflow, reduced fraud risk, and lower operational costs. Brite Instant Payouts also enables OXID's merchants to streamline ecommerce refunds. The Brite Instant Payments Network uses Open Banking technology to process account-to-account (A2A) payments in real time between consumers and online merchants.

As Germany's e-commerce market continues to expand, the adoption of innovative payment methods like Pay by Bank is expected to grow. With partnerships like the one between Brite Payments and OXID eSales, the future of online transactions in Germany seems poised for exciting developments.
